Flower Essences 101: What are flower essences?

What are flower essences? Flower Essences 101

It’s Day 1 of this Flower Essences 101 mini course, and I’m answering a most important question: what, exactly, are flower essences?

Flower essences—sometimes called flower “remedies”, especially overseas—are energized water infusions that resonate with specific vibrational frequencies.

They are a form of “energy medicine” and can provide support for emotional, mental, spiritual, and occasionally physical well-being.

They help address imbalance and dysfunction, in a vibrational manner, helping to balance, rebuild, and restore the body’s energetic systems.

They are intended to be natural, gentle, non-invasive, and effective tools for optimizing overall wellness.

The ingredients are simple: spring water and a preservative. Unlike essential oils (which are also made from plants, including flowers), flower essences do not have a particular smell or taste beyond the chosen preservative, which is traditionally brandy.

Dr. Edward Bach’s remedies are probably the most well-known range of flower essences. Maybe you’ve even seen them at your local health food store!

Bach, who was an English physician later turned homeopath, developed a range of 38 individual flower essences in the mid-1930s. He also created a composite formula of five flower essences that he called “Rescue Remedy”. Many consider him to be the pioneer of modern flower essences.

Once you’ve tried them, you realize how much more sophisticated they are than they first appear!

Next week, we’ll talk about some of the beliefs and theories about how flower essences work.

Stay tuned!
